Jeu des Philosophes

Éditions J.C. Dusserre
Maitres Cartiers Boéchat Frères

The kings are philosophers: Molière, La Fontaine, Voltaire, Rousseau. The queens are virtues: prudence, justice, temperance, and strength. The jacks are soldiers of the Rebublic: Sans Culotte (this must be a specific force or else the average citizen; the man in the picture is wearing pants), Fusillier (marksman?), Artilleur (gunner), Garde National (National guard). The deck is a copy of one originally published in 1793. The original is in the national library in Paris.
